Before & After AC Wall Unit Makeover

For just under $3.00 and 30 minutes of your valuable time, you can transform your AC wall unit into something fun and cute with just paint!

What you will need:

Paint
Paintbrush

* I used  a container of BEHR Premium Plus Ultra 8 oz  sample size  available at Home Depot for $2.94.
I chose the color Mountain Mint for a retro look . The 8 oz. size was more than enough paint for the job.

It was such a simple project, but it really made a difference to the space.
Now I don't have to cringe every time I look at it!

Happy Weekend!

via Words Over Pixels.

Have a lovely weekend!

Cauliflower Rice Burrito Bowl

I made this cauliflower rice burrito bowl the other day for dinner. So here we have cauliflower rice, black beans, wilted swiss chard and spinach, shredded chicken breast, topped with homemade guacamole and salsa, with a sprinkle of cheese. This was the first time I made cauliflower rice as a "rice" substitute and I must admit I was a bit skeptical on how it was going to taste and also whether or not it was going to be satisfying. To my surprise it was delicious and even my children loved it! J is the "rice man" so he's the ultimate test when it comes to carb substitutes. He himself was surprised he liked it so much! We kinda
cheated however by adding a few tortilla chips on the side. The kids loved topping their chips with all the goodies. You gotta live a little right?

I adapted a recipe from Joy The Baker. Visit her blog, she has some amazing recipes!

Oinkster, Eagle Rock, CA

We ate at The Oinkster, a fast-casual concept from acclaimed fine-dining chef Andre Guerrero.
The Oinkster aims to be Los Angeles' antidote to both, expensive gourmet meals and their cheap fast food counterparts.

Premium sandwiches made with house-cured pastrami or sloooow-roasted pork compete for diners' attention with juicy burgers made from freshly-ground Nebraska Angus beef, first-rate rotisserie-roasted chicken and crispy Belgian fries.

Fake fast-food cheese are given a pass in favor of scrumptious Gruyere and yummy sharp cheddar, home-made sauces, dressings and spice rubs share the plate with house-made condiments and crunchy veggies.

Everything was delicious! We walked off our lunch by taking a stroll through the city.

Featured in a Dutch Magazine!

I'm very excited that our DIY Outdoor Seating, as well as a little write up about us will be featured in the September 2014 issue of a Dutch Magazine called Tuinieren. Tuinieren is a modern gardening publication.
Today they ran an article about us on their blog, as a prelude to their upcoming issue.

Tuinieren is extremely the greenest garden site in the Netherlands! The website is created by the makers of the "Gardening" magazine, where professional and novice gardeners can find year-round practical information and inspiration. I've always been a fan of Dutch aesthetics and their simple way of life.

Beautiful flowers!

The Plumeria flower is commonly used in Hawaii to make leis. I photographed these over the 4th of July weekend at our cousin Sunako's lovely home. They are so amazingly beautiful, the photos look unreal! Almost like a painting. Sunako (of Samoan decent),  grows these beauties all over his home in every color imaginable! Every 4th of July Sunako and his family throw a big party! He adorns each table with a bouquet of his home grown Plumerias for his 60 + guests to enjoy! I need to find out his secret.
It must be that island touch!
